 I am writing to ask for Richard Febbi’s info to be updated. He is listed under HQ co STA PLT. Febbi passed away last July in a auto accident. http://richardfebbi.memory-of.com/ < This is a link to his memorial web site. His family also set up a memorial fund in his name to help Lava Dogs that need help getting phone cards, plane tickets, and other morale and welfare items. If you could get the word out I would appreciate it Febbi served in both HQ co and Bravo Co. Any help would be appreciated.

Bill Robbins (Alpha CO 55-56) passed away in September 2005 He was company guidon bearer.1956,He volunteered many hours for the USO shows in the far East,as a stand up comic,he was well liked in the Company and was my dear friend ,He suffered a stroke while waiting to perform on stage in stand up comedy on Long Island,He also had a talk show on cable T.V. with his daughter Susan. My good friend and best buddy at the siege of Khe Sanh, Vietnam, Charles “Chuck” McCormick, passed away New Year’s Eve.  I’ve been ill so just heard about it from his widow.  He went quietly in his sleep; no suffering.

     I pass this on for those who may of known him.  He retired from the Marine Corps in 1980 as a Master Gunnery Sergeant, and went to work for the State of Indiana in Indianapolis.

     Chuck and I were often the only two above ground at the surrounded Khe Sanh base.  He was awarded the Bronze Star for his actions there.  There are a lot of stories we shared, including the death of our brother Marine George Walbridge in the only C-130 the Corps lost there, but I’m the only one left to tell them, now.

     He was a good man of character, a good husband and father of two sons, and although we had not talked recently, one of the best friends I ever had.  He was also a terrific Marine and one of my heroes.  I know I’ll meet him at heaven’s gates.  He’ll probably be interviewing the newbies.

Not as lean, not as mean, but still a Marine.

Denzel Washington and his family visited the troops at Brook Army Medical Center, in San Antonio,Texas (BAMC) the other day. This is where soldiers who have been evacuated from Germany come to be hospitalized in the United States, especially burn victims. There are some buildings there called Fisher Houses. The Fisher House is a Hotel where soldiers’ families can stay, for little or no charge, while their soldier is staying in the Hospital. BAMC has quite a few of these houses on base, but as you can imagine, they are almost filled most of the time.

While Denzel Washington was visiting BAMC, they gave him a tour of one of the Fisher Houses. He asked how much one of them would cost to build. He took his check book out and wrote a check for the full amount right there on the spot. The soldiers overseas were amazed to hear
this story and want to get the word out to the American public, because it warmed their hearts to hear it.
